Just be sure to emphasize the minor key more when you use it. Other than that, the same notes and chords apply. A D Major chord is the first thing you hear when the song starts.

A song can't be in 'D Mixolydian', that's just how you would solo over it playing around the tonic. As ken accurately summed it up, the song is in D. PS.
